Caring For Your Adrenals
Your adrenals are two thumb-sized glands that sit above your kidneys and are a part of the endocrine system. They produce over 50 hormones and play a large role in the body’s stress response. Stress can come in a variety of forms including, illness, physical exertion, trauma, and the stressors of daily life. Chronic stress can impact the body’s ability to recover. In “Adrenal Fatigue: The 21st Century Stress Syndrome (2001),” Dr. James L. Wilson described adrenal fatigue as “a deficiency in adrenal gland functioning that can result in debilitating symptoms ranging from lethargy to lowered sex drive to weight gain.” Adrenal fatigue is an epidemic! We are constantly trying to be more productive in the same amount of hours in a day!
Adrenal fatigue is a complex issue that is impossible to cover in a blog article. I can confidently say that every client that I work with has adrenal fatigue. Getting to the root causes is essential and that is one of my top goals in health coaching my clients.
